Proxy filters make the proxy list clean and convenient to use. Proxy lists include the IP addresses of computers that host open proxy servers making them available to anyone on the internet. Proxy lists are classified by the various proxy protocols that they use such as HTTP/HTTPS/SOCKS.

Most proxy providers offer this service online with the additional ability to save to a file and clear the field. Proxy filtering is performed in IP: PORT format. The other advantages of the filter are the following:

  • Use of the same filter for a large number of proxies.
  • Efficient storing and transmitting the filtered proxy list.

Proxy list filters help sort a “dirty” sheet containing detailed information about the proxies and convert it to a list in IP: PORT format. It saves the IP address and the port number alone and removes the other details from the proxy list.

Why is a Proxy Filter needed?

There are a plethora of proxy lists on Google for public use. The proxy list contains detailed information including country, city, speed, type, and anonymity. The information you need from this list is the standard IP address and the IP port. This is the “standard IP: PORT” format that is given to the client as the Proxy list.

Every proxy provider has its own standard way of uploading data. The proxy lists are available to users through the mail, PDF, DOC, or CSV files. The problem is that users upload the proxy list in different formats since there is no standard way of uploading data.

The list has extra characters, spaces, dates, or comments in each row which you must delete. It is difficult to check them all at once and get them ready for use, but there are two options to do it.

One way is to sort through the data by going through each entry, and extracting what you need. It requires manual work such as copying, pasting, and deleting, and the other method is to use a proxy filter.

How does a proxy filter work?

The shared proxies from a provider do not exclusively belong to them. They come from different sites on the internet including the closed forums and from some private proxy databases and the spider robot automatically collects them from different sources.

On verification, the proxies show the status at the time of verification and do not guarantee performance and stability.

The proxy list shows how long ago the proxies verified the status of all proxies in its network and checks and sorts all proxies listed according to various parameters. The type of proxy depends on how the user uses the proxy. The different types are :

HTTP – HTTP proxies are the regular ones that support HTTP requests to view websites and download files over HTTP.

HTTPS – These are also called Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) – enabled proxies to view HTTPS sites.

SOCKS4 – These proxies that support the SOCKS 4 protocol to connect over TCP/IP to any IP address and port.

SOCKS5 – These proxies support the User Datagram Protocol (UDP) protocol and can make DNS requests through a proxy and use the BIND method to open the port for incoming connections.

Another parameter that it checks and sorts is proxy anonymity. It is an important factor for a proxy whether it may hide the user’s identity or whether the destination server suspects the use of the proxy or not.

The anonymity factor is categorized as:

  • No anonymity: The destination server knows your IP  address and also knows that you are using a proxy.
  • Low anonymity: The destination server does not know your IP address but knows that you are using a proxy.
  • Average anonymity: The destination server knows that you are using a proxy and thinks that the IP you use belongs to you. In reality, it makes use of a rotating IP that keeps changing making it hard for the destination to know the real IP address.
  • High anonymity: The destination server will not be able to know your IP address and also it will be unable to find out that you are using a proxy. These are known as anonymous proxies.

The proxy list contains mixed proxies from different countries and you can download it as a link or as a .csv/.txt file. Click on the “Filter Proxies” to get the active proxies from the list, from a specific country.

ProxyScrape’s Proxy Filter

ProxyScrape offers an online proxy filter tool that quickly filters the list and makes it clean and convenient to use. The output is in IP: PORT format and saved to a file, making the proxies effective to perform the user’s intended action.

Once you get hold of the proxy’s IP address and port number, you may use the online proxy checker tool to check the availability and type of each proxy. To check the public proxies, put the public proxies in the proxy checker with its IP: PORT. If you have private proxies, then put the IP:PORT:USER: PASS in the proxy checker tool.

Final Thoughts

The proxy providers offer proxy filters as an online tool to sort the ‘dirty list’ into IP: PORT format. It sorts and prepares a list of proxies based on certain criteria like the country, anonymity, and protocols.

The proxy list filter extracts the needed information from different sources such as HTML, TXT, and CSV files. This list is an add-on for a proxy checker to check the status of the proxies. The proxies are predominantly used for scraping websites. ProxyScrape offers proxies for various applications in flexible packages. Visit our site to know more about the pricing and other details.
